Tour as usual starts with
everyone meeting up at the ‘Cockroach and Mallet’ pub.
Two new Ducklings get lost, as there is no pub called
this in South
Molton.
Captain for the day John
remembering his duck last year when he pulled a short ball which did not get up
decides to open with Wales and Hanno and then watches some pretty average
bowling on a good track. As the
score mounts and it looks like he will not get a bat, he starts pacing round the
boundary and does so for the next 40 overs. |
| Wales is well on his way
to his maiden century with time running out.
Steve Abbot then hogs the strike and hits a quick 30 pinching the strike
off the last ball of each over. On
the last ball of the innings the bowler knowing Wales needs just four for his
ton bowls him a long hop which he promptly… top edges to the wicket keeper.
Cue a big fine for jug avoidance and some sympathy…but not much. |

Virgin
Duckling – Gonzo decides today is the day to make an impact as a fast bowler.
However the pace of his bowling as about as fast as a Little Chef
waitress and he is thrashed around the park to the tune of 45 runs in 4 overs.
North Molton then proceed to knock the runs off with little trouble the
opening bat striking the ball around making Andy’s efforts look pretty puny
and getting 120 not out.
North Molton’s captain
Rob also decides to demonstrate that the bats he makes as a bit of part time
work are pretty good and North Molton ease to a win with 4 overs left.

Back
at the Hotel the card school starts up. Sheelagh takes advantage of the younger ducklings by saying
she does not know how to play cards. Yeah
right! Heard that one before, but husband Hilly should know better and when he
is holding a flush the pot rises past ₤80.
Sheelagh eventually shows her hand with “I’ve got two pairs of
aces, is that any good”? Game
over.

You would expect the tour
management would set themselves up with the best sleeping arrangements.
Not so, for some unaccountable reason Bloggy decides to room with Kevin
who then proceeds to snore all night like an asthmatic camel.
Violence
could well be on the agenda by the end of the week.
This gives rise to the thought that a new version of Cluedo being
launched. You can just see if now,
the local plod sagely inspecting the chalk outline of a body saying, “I
think it was Bloggy in Room 13 with a cricket bat”- motive excessive snoring”.
-Case dismissed. |
